Skywalk at Samet Nangshe Viewpoint – Completed Landmark Project

Project Detail

Location: Samet Nangshe, Phang Nga
Project type: Tourist attraction and observation structure
Structure height: Approximately 40 metres
Skywalk length: Approximately 180 metres
Glass installation: Approximately 500 square metres
Sotech Asia’s role: Engineering and construction contractor
Project status: Completed

Sotech Asia successfully completed the Skywalk at Samet Nangshe Viewpoint in Phang Nga—a landmark engineering project designed to create an exceptional panoramic viewing experience.

Rising approximately 40 metres above the surrounding landscape, the structure provides visitors with unobstructed views across the dramatic limestone formations and natural scenery of Phang Nga Bay.

The completed project demonstrates the capabilities of a Phuket-based construction company in delivering technically demanding steel, concrete and architectural-glass structures.

Landmark Skywalk Construction

The Skywalk was designed to combine structural strength, architectural transparency and minimal visual obstruction.

A central engineering feature is its prefabricated steel truss structure, extending approximately 180 metres and supported by ten reinforced-concrete columns.

Prefabricating the principal steel components provided several important advantages:

  • Greater accuracy during fabrication
  • Improved quality control
  • Efficient assembly on site
  • Reduced high-level construction time
  • Reliable structural connections
  • Consistent construction quality

Detailed planning was required for the fabrication, transportation, lifting and installation of the steel components at the elevated project location.

A 40-Metre Structure with Unobstructed Views

The observation structure rises to an impressive height of approximately 40 metres.

Its carefully engineered steel-column arrangement reduces the need for visually obstructive bracing beams, allowing visitors to enjoy expansive panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Delivering a structure of this height required close attention to structural stability, steel fabrication, connection details, construction tolerances and installation sequencing.

The completed structure demonstrates how carefully coordinated engineering can provide both structural performance and architectural elegance.

Advanced Structural-Steel Engineering

The Skywalk incorporates a combination of prefabricated structural steel and reinforced-concrete support elements.

The principal structural works included:

  • Reinforced-concrete foundations and support columns
  • Fabrication of structural-steel components
  • Construction of the 180-metre steel truss
  • High-level steel erection
  • Structural connections and alignment
  • Architectural-glass installation
  • Coordination of specialist contractors
  • Quality and safety inspections

Every stage required careful coordination between engineers, fabricators, site-management personnel, lifting teams and specialist installers.

The project highlights Sotech Asia’s ability to manage complex structural works in challenging locations while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

Triple-Layer Laminated Glass Façade

The Skywalk’s striking architectural appearance is enhanced by approximately 500 square metres of 30 mm triple-layer laminated glass with protective interlayers.

Ultra-clear tempered-glass elements were also incorporated to maximise transparency and allow visitors to experience uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.

The architectural-glass system combines:

  • High structural performance
  • Enhanced visitor safety
  • Exceptional transparency
  • Resistance to demanding external conditions
  • A clean and contemporary appearance
  • Integration with the structural-steel framework

The installation required precise measurements and careful coordination between the steel structure, glass supports and individual glazing components.

Engineering for a Challenging Location

Constructing a large elevated structure at a scenic viewpoint presented significant logistical and technical challenges.

Materials and prefabricated components had to be transported, lifted and installed in carefully planned sequences. Site access, working height, weather conditions and protection of the surrounding environment all had to be considered throughout construction.

Sotech Asia applied detailed planning, engineering coordination and experienced site supervision to complete the structure safely and efficiently.

The successful delivery demonstrates the company’s ability to combine architectural ambition with practical construction knowledge.
